Case of the Mondays?

Sorry, no cure in sight. But maybe some covers will help.

This first cover is an incredible video I stumbled across on Youtube. PJ Harvey and Bjork are covering "Satisfaction" by the Rolling Stones. I would have a hard time naming two female artists who are more unlike each other than these two. So it of course makes for a great song.

The next cover was brought to my attention by a friend last week. It's Ben Gibbard (that dude from The Postal Service and Death Cab) covering Avril Lavigne's "Complicated." Sure, improving that song is like trying to mend a broken glass with duct tape. The glass is fucked, so do your best. It's still a great instance of an artist up on stage having fun and giving the fans something... else.

Ben Gibbard - Complicated (Avril Lavigne cover)

Last but not least we have Owen Pallett, a.k.a. Final Fantasy. In my opinion he's probably one of the most talented musicians out there right now. The sheer number of artists he's worked with should speak enough for him. Anyhow, here's him doing a fantastic cover of Bloc Party's "This Modern Love."

I had better stop now, or I won't have covers to share next week.

EDIT: Also notice in the first video: Bjork has been wearing Tim's long before they were cool.

Naw, mang. It's not mending a broken glass with duct tape; it's planting a potted plant in a forest.

Also, I love the use of the passive voice - "...was brought to my attention by..." instead of "Person X brought this to my attention last week." Adds an air of indirectivity and pretense. LOVE

Oh, and you have an authority ranking of one on Technorati, which is way better than what I have (ZERO).

I'm all about long comments today, no?

And everyone knows I'm all about pretense.
