No, this isn't about some band called the intangibles.
But I've been surveying my music collection and I've come to realize there is very little in the way of truly great music. Sure, I'm somewhat proud of my music collection, but a large amount is simply good music. This one's a fun poppy song, this band is doing stuff technically above everyone else, play this song at a party, the lyrics in this one will make you think a bit, ad nauseum, ad nauseum, ad nauseum . None of that necessarily equates to a great song.
Everyone knows what type of song I'm talking about. They vary from person to person they don't just get stuck in your head like your typical catchy song, but they get stuck in your mood. Not necessarily mind altering, but even after the song is over you're stuck with the emotions that came with the song. But for all the music I digest, I'm coming across these songs much less than I used to. It seemed just last year there was a new song that I latched on to each week which was then played into the ground. Yet now I'm finding much more new music each day than I used to, but I find those great songs on fewer and fewer occasions.
The more I think about it, the more I feel as if I'm over analyzing songs. It seems as if I'm reading all these blogs and whatnot just to simply keep up to date as opposed to fulfilling my enjoyment of music. I've just deleted my bookmarks, we'll see where this goes.
Here's some songs that did it for me at some point.
Cat Power - Names
Final Fantasy - This is the Dream of Win and Regine
The Jesus and Mary Chain - Just Like Honey
The Shivers - Half Invisible (I have no honest clue where this song came from. One day it appeared on my computer and that was that)
Maybe you'll have an epiphany as well.

You know, if it weren't for the Jesus and Mary Chain, I wouldn't have linked my like of The Raveonettes to the post-punk movement, and I wouldn't have liked any of the bands that influenced my life so much in high school. Kudos for the JAMC mention.
I have Lost in Translation for me liking them. Actually I think that mp3 has the album art that goes with the movie as opposed to their actual album
i heard and fell in love with that song through LiT as well. It's so well used in the film.
I don't think there's a song in that film that isn't used well. I think I would rate it one of my favorite soundtracks ever.
shadowplay and she's lost control (joy division) are the only songs that have ever done this to me.
